Description

Join us for a celebration of Metis material culture and learn the stitches that make up this beautiful tradition while helping us rebuild after a devastating fire. We are raising funds to help Meeting My Ancestors recover our materials and equipment which we use in teaching our classes. The fire consumed our home and everything we owned. Although we will need to wait for some time to rebuild our home, order to continue teaching, we need to restock our materials and this requires that we fundraise.

How better to rebuild than to celebrate and share the our beautiful material culture!

This zoom based class will share three important stitches used in creating beautiful Metis style floral embroidery. The recording will be accessible for two weeks after the class for those who have registered in our online classroom.

Taanishi! Dishinikawshon Natalie Pepin. I am a Metis woman in the Tawatinaw Valley in Alberta, Canada. I support indigenous people who are reclaiming their indigenous roots to connect with their culture through learning the traditional skills, arts, stories and teachings of our ancestors. I support indigenous people, who are severed from their traditions by legacy and trauma of colonization, who are discovering that their culture is beautiful. I teach indigenous arts workshops such as beading, moccasin making and brain tanning as a means of reconciliation and reconnection.
