Crazy Quilt program
Join us as we breathe life into a beloved, thrifty and beautiful tradition together this winter as we gather and empty out our fabric stash tiny cut up bits and make….CRAZY QUILTS!
Crazy quilts were a way to turn scraps into something warm and needed, but also beautiful and meaningful. Crazy quilts is an easy, accessible form of quilting, that doesn’t require cutting intricate patterns. Crazy quilts were also beautifully embroidered pieces of art.
In this program, we will gather once a month through the winter to sew together and listen to teachings about Metis history, culture, and traditions. In the last months of the program, we will learn traditional Metis embroidery stitches as we embellish our quilts and finish them off with binding.
Participants are invited to have their quilts (we will be aiming for wall hanging size, but you can make it as big as you’d like) displayed in an exhibit collection at the end of the program. Details TBA..
This program begins November and will run until April (6 sessions), each from 7-8pm MST

For this program you will need…
- FABRIC! Scraps preferably, but any woven fabrics will work.
- Thread.
- Sewing needle, or sewing machine.
- Batting.
- Binding (can be blanket binding, or I will show how to turn cotton fabric into binding)
- Embroidery thread.
- Embroidery needle
All sessions will occur and Zoom and links will be sent out to registered participants.

Cost
This program costs 85 dollars per registrant.

Taanishi! Dishinikawshon Natalie Pepin. I am a Metis woman in the Tawatinaw Valley in Alberta, Canada. I support indigenous people who are reclaiming their indigenous roots to connect with their culture through learning the traditional skills, arts, stories and teachings of our ancestors. I support indigenous people, who are severed from their traditions by legacy and trauma of colonization, who are discovering that their culture is beautiful. I teach indigenous arts workshops such as beading, moccasin making and brain tanning as a means of reconciliation and reconnection.
