Split toe moccasins come to a gradual point, and are commonly seen in museums across the Metis homeland, attributed as Metis moccasins. In reality, Metis people wore many styles of moccasins. Spit toe being the most common that I have seen historically. Join us to learn how to make this style of moccasins in this online class. You can also purchase your own materials. Here is what you will need…
approximately 3-4 square feet of hide (depending on your feet), high quality melton fabric, liner fabric, binding tape (can be ribbon, twill tape, or bias tape), glovers needles, sewing needles, sinew, thread, and any beads you would like to use in the decoration of your moccasins.

I support indigenous people who are reclaiming their indigenous roots to connect with their culture through learning the traditional skills, arts, stories and teachings of our ancestors. I support indigenous people, who are severed from their traditions by legacy and trauma of colonization, who are discovering that their culture is beautiful. I teach indigenous arts workshops such as beading, moccasin making and brain tanning as a means of reconciliation and reconnection.
