Description

Starting August 2024

Join us as we create exquisite works of traditional art with this 2 month wall pocket intensive. This program will not only walk you through each step of creating a wall pocket, but we will dive deep into the cultural process of creating traditional art, teachings around connection to home, and growing together as a cohort of artists.

This is an advanced program for experienced beaders.

This project will take between 40 and 60 hours to complete, please sure you have adequate time (at least 4 to 5 hours a week).

We will meet on Zoom twice a month for 2 months as we create our wall pockets.

There is an optional materials kit for this cohort which includes;

  • Velvet
  • Stabilizer
  • Reproduction 1800s cotton print liner
  • Size 13 beads (10 strands) in several colors as your base of beads
  • Beading thread
  • Beading needles
  • Solvy pattern paper
  • Silk binding tape

These are premium materials kits and you can purchase more basic materials at a lower cost locally if you prefer.

Taanishi! Dishinikawshon Natalie Pepin. I am a Metis woman in the Tawatinaw Valley in Alberta, Canada. I support indigenous people who are reclaiming their indigenous roots to connect with their culture through learning the traditional skills, arts, stories and teachings of our ancestors. I support indigenous people, who are severed from their traditions by legacy and trauma of colonization, who are discovering that their culture is beautiful. I teach indigenous arts workshops such as beading, moccasin making and brain tanning as a means of reconciliation and reconnection.
